D U Day today

Dhaka University will celebrate its 94th founding anniversary, Dhaka University Day, on July 1 amid elaborate programmes with the participation of current and former students of the alma mater.

The theme of this year is 'Higher Education and Sustainable Development.'

Rallies will be brought out from the residential halls of the university to assemble at the Mall in front of the Administrative Building. Besides, national flag, DU flag and flags of different halls will be hoisted and procession will be brought out on the campus at 10.15 am which will end at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the university.

Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi will inaugurate the programme as the chief guest.

A discussion will be held at TSC with Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair.

Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan will deliver a lecture on 'Higher Education and Sustainable Development' as the university day speaker.

Former vice-chancellors, pro-vice chancellors, emeritus professors, teachers and representatives of staffs and employees will participate at the discussion.

Besides, discussion meetings at different halls, debate competition at TSC, football and cricket matches, cultural functions and drama will be staged commemorating the day.

Biomedical Physics and Technology Department will organize exhibition of research and invention at 3 pm.

Halls, departments and other offices will remain open marking the day.
