Firebombing by suspected BNP-led coalition supporters on a truck has left two people burned in Narsinghdi Sadar UpazilaThe firebombing took place at Pachdona on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway around 10pm Tuesday, police said

The victims, the truck driver and a jute trader, were admitted to the Narsinghdi Sadar Hospital.

Narsinghdi Model Police Station OC Abul Kasem said suspected blockade supporters had hurled petrol bombs on the Dhaka-bound truck.

Police rescued the injured and rushed them to the hospital, he added.

The BNP-led 20-Party alliance has been enforcing an indefinite nationwide transport blockade since Jan 5 to press for a snap election under an ‘impartial’ administration.

The coalition has also been enforcing nationwide shutdowns for nearly one and a half months as part of its agitations to put pressure on the government.

Since the violent agitations began, petrol and crude bomb attacks across Bangladesh have become more and more frequent.

More than 100 people have died and several others injured in the past two months, mostly in arson attacks.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently told Parliament that more than 1,000 vehicles had been torched throughout the country and there had been 25 cases of sabotage in the railways.
