Bangladesh Chhatra League councillors are going to elect their central leaders in an election being held at its 28th national council session in Dhaka on Sunday, the final day of the 2-day council session.

Reliable sources said a syndicate, led by former BCL president Liaqat Shikdar, has lent its unofficial support for a panel led by Saifur Rahman Shohagh, environment secretary of the current central committee of the student body of ruling Awami League, as president candidate and Zakir Hossain, an assistant secretary of the current committee, as the secretary candidate in the election.

Shohagh hails from Madaripur and Zakir from Moulvibazar districts. They both led Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman hall unit of the organisation at Dhaka University.
The panel is likely to be elected as there is no possibility of forming any other panel, the sources said.

A total of 15 president candidates and 40 secretary candidates are competing in the election that began 11:30am.
