A Dhaka court has scrapped a case filed against singer Arfin Rumey over charges of polygamy.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Anwar Sadat rejected the case after plaintiff Lamia Akhter Ananya failed to appear before the court for the framing of charge.

Arfin Rumey’s lawyer Abul Kalam Azad told reporters that the couple had come to an understanding.

Earlier, another case filed by Ananya against Arfin Rumey over abuse and dowry had been dismissed followed by a mutual settlement.

“Lamia did not appear before the court since they have reached an understanding,” said Abul Kalam.

According to the case documents, Rumey and Ananya got married on Apr 17, 2008. Two years later, she gave birth to a son.

During that time, Rumey demanded a dowry of Tk 200,000 and threatened to re-marry if Ananya failed to pay.

On Oct 24, 2012 Rumey got married to Kamrunnesa, a non-resident Bangladeshi, without the consent of his first wife Ananya.

Rumey, a former member of the band Durbin, got the 'UroCJFB performance award' for his album 'Esho Na' in 2009 and the 'Binodon-Bichitra best composer award' in 2010.
