Supreme Court  clears way for Falu’s  trial

The Supreme Court today cleared the way to run the trial proceedings against BNP leader Mosaddek Ali Falu in a corruption case filed for amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 14.95 crore.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on July 8, 2007 with Motijheel Police Station against Falu on charge of concealing information about his property worth Tk 4.57 crore.

A four-member bench of Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha scrapped a High Court verdict that had quashed the trial proceedings of the case three years ago.

Following the SC order, there is no legal bar for the lower court to resume the trial proceedings of the case, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.

The apex court passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by the ACC challenging the HC verdict.

The HC quashed the trial proceedings on January, 2012 following a petition filed by Falu.
