Country's first women community policing forum commence 

The country's first ever women community policing forum began its journey from Pairaband village, birthplace of pioneer of women renaissance in the subcontinent Begum Rokeya, under Mithapukur upazila here from Monday.



The newly formed union-level 'Pairaband Women Community Policing Forum (PWCPF) began its journey with firm commitments of preventing child marriage, dowry, repression and domestic violence against women and building a drug-free society.

To mark the occasion, PWCPF organised a rally for its female members at Begum Rokeya Smriti Kendra auditorium under Pairaband union with Chairman of Pairaband union parishad Alhaj Rezaul Islam Reza in the chair.

The district police under Police Reform Project (PRF) extended cooperation in arranging the rally participated by hundreds of local people, including 200 female members of PWCPF, from all nine wards under Pairaband union.

Superintendent of Police of Rangpur and Chief Adviser of the District Community Policing Coordination Committee (DCPCC) Abdur Razzaque, ppm, attended and addressed the rally as the chief guest.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Abdullah Al Farooque, Member-secretary of the DCPCC Shushanto Bhowmick and its Member Principal Khondker Abul Hasnat Fakhrul Anam Benzu, addressed as the special guests.

President of PWCPF Hosne Ara Begum, its General Secretary Marjina Begum, Begum Rokeya's family member Ranjina Saber, and theorist of women community policing concept 7 Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Bakar Siddique also spoke.

The speakers highly lauded the time-befitting initiative of launching activities of women community policing forum from Pairaband from where Begum Rokeya successfully pioneered women renaissance in the then colonial sub-continent.

They hoped that members of the women community policing forum would play vital role in bridging police-people on mutual trust in strengthening community policing activities to ensure peace in the society, prevent drug abuse and violence against women.

They stressed for forming of women community policing forums at all union and ward levels for further strengthening community policing activities to ensure peace, prevent drug abuse, child marriage, dowry, repression and violence against women.

The chief guest narrated objectives of community policing and hoped that the newly launched PWCPF would play vital role in reducing social crimes, curses, superstitions, eve-teasing, drug abuse and settling petty social crimes locally to maintain law and order.

Narrating the tremendous success achieved by the country's women community in every sector, he said members of the women community policing forum would play pioneering role and contribute equally side by side with males to further reduce crimes.

He asked the common people from all walks in life to come forward and work unitedly with police through building mutual trust, partnership and information sharing for preventing social crimes to establish peace in every sector of the society.
