Cricketer Shahadat charged for 'torturing house help’

A house help yesterday brought allegations of torture by national cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife.

“A girl has verbally complained before us of being tortured by national cricketer Sahadat Hossain and his wife when some locals brought her here,” Dadan Fakir, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, told The Daily Star last night over phone.

He also said the 11-year-old was brought to the police station around 9:00pm and was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Dadan Fakir also said a case has been filed with Mirpur Police Station accusing the couple.

When contacted, duty office Abdul Salam of Mirpur Police Station last night confirmed the filing of a case by one Khandaker Mozammel.

Interestingly, the Mirpur police also confirmed that Sahadat had filed a general dairy around noon regarding his house help going missing.

However, Shahadat could not be reached over phone for comments last night.

Pace bowler Shahdat, who sustained a knee injury while playing in the second Test against Pakistan earlier this year, lives at Mirpur-2, adjacent to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
