Cattle trader dies in Rajshahi 

A cattle trader, who was among the 30 people who fell unconscious after having breakfast at a Rajshahi hotel, died today.

Jaj Mia, 40, from Narsingdi, died around 5:30am, reports our Rajshahi correspondent quoting Abdul Malek, a sub-inspector (SI) of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) police camp.
Cause of death of the man can be ascertained after a postmortem, the SI said.

Jaj Mia’s condition was critical when he was admitted to RMCH yesterday, later in the evening he was moved to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, the police official added.

The people, coming from different parts of the country including Narsingdi, Sonargaon and Comilla, went to City Bypass Haat area on the outskirts of Rajshahi city to buy cattle ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. No valuables were stolen from them, police said yesterday.

The food items, including beef and rice, were not stale, said Assistant Prof Mizanur Rahman of the medicine department of RMCH quoting the patients.

Something was mixed with those, which caused their illness, he said.
Kamruzzaman said he felt a bad headache and pain in the stomach immediately after having the food items. Belal Hossain, another victim, echoed him.
