Five killed in Sirajganj bus accident

Five passengers were killed in a collision between two buses on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway at Khalkula in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district at around 10:15pm on Tuesday.


The victims are Badsha Mia, 42, a resident of Shahjadpur upazila, Atab Ali, 35, hail from Ullapara upazila, Monnaf Ali, 61, of Gurudaspur upazila. Identities of the rest two deceased could not be known yet.


The injured passengers were admitted to different hospitals and clinics.
Sirajganj deputy commissioner and police superintendent visited the spot.
The district administration will give Tk 10 thousand to the families of each deceased passengers, while the injured will get Tk 5 thousand each.


Hatikumrul Highway Police sergeant Abdul Ghani said Hatikumrul-bound Shishir Paribahan bus collided head-on with Rajshahi-bound Desh Paribahan bus while overtaking a truck. The truck, which also got involved in the collision, and the Desh Paribahan bus skidded off the road and both fell into roadside ditches.


The Shishir Paribahan bus was wrecked in the accident and turned turtle on the road, leaving four passengers of the bus dead on the spot. The other passengers died on their way to hospital.
