Nizami appeal hearing begins

Hearing on the appeal of Jamaat-e-Islami amir Matiur Rahman Nizami against his death penalty, handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka, has begun.

The hearing began at a four-member appellate division bench, led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, after a time petition of Nizami was rejected in the morning on Wednesday.

In the appeal, Nizami claimed himself innocent against the charges of crimes against humanity during 1971.

His lawyer Shishir Monir said there are 168 arguments he put in favour of Niazami in the appeal.
