Foreign minister says "Govt. attains significant success in power generation, supply"

The present government has attained an epoch-making success in power generation and distribution sector as it has given top priority to the sector in a bid to reach the power supply privileges to every household in the country by 2018.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said this while inaugurating a power connection scheme in Pannapara village under Charghat Upazila of the district on Friday.

He said power is very important for a balance and equitable development of the nation. So, the government has been working relentlessly in this regard. It has attached highest priority to the sector and has been implementing massive and effective projects. By 2018, all the households in Bagha and Charghat upazilas will get power supply. The educational institutions having no power supply will also get electricity connections.

Besides, there will no more non-concrete road in the two upazilas. On the occasion, the state minister inaugurated 673 power connections to various residential and charitable institutions in 14 villages.

Shahriar Alam said the previous massive power debacle and load-shedding has been reduced to a greater extent. At present, people of the country don't experience erratic power supply.

The government has been implementing prompt, short, medium and long-term planning which has helped the power sector attain unprecedented success. He also said the present government has increased power generation to 11,000 megawatts from the previous 3,200 megawatts.

With Vaya Luxmipur Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Mazid in the chair, Charghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Salim Sabrin, Deputy General Manager of Rural Electrification Board Abdul Kader, Assistant General Manager Khorshed Alam and AL leaders Fakhrul Islam, Ekramul, Haque, Aftab Uddin Sarker and Matiur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
