BNP chairperson leaves Dhaka

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia left for London last night for eye treatment and celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha with her family members.

The reunion of the Zia family is going to take place after nearly seven years.

Khaleda Zia left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for London by an Emirates Airlines flight around 9:30pm.

Party senior leaders including BNP standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and party joint secretary general Md Shahjahan went to the airport to see her off.

Party leaders said Khaleda is going to London primarily for “better eye treatment alongside celebrating Eid-ul-Azha there with her family members.”

The BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shairul Kabir told Prothom Alo that the chairperson’s adviser Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and BNP-backed mayoral candidate in the last Dhaka North City Corporation election Tabith Awal are accompanying the BNP chairperson.

The BNP’s assistant office secretary Shamimur Rahman alleged that the police charged batons on BNP workers when they gathered at the intersections in front of the airport to see the party chairperson off.
