A policeman was killed and 9 burns in Comilla

A policeman was killed when a microbus carrying law enforcers and accused caught fire after it was hit by a truck in Chauddagram upazila of Comilla last night.

Four police personnel and five accused received burn injuries during the accident and were rushed to the burn unit of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, a Bangla daily Prothom Alo reported.

The accident took place around 11:30pm when the law enforcers were shifting the accused to Dhaka from Chittagong with the requisitioned vehicle.

The dead is Abdul Aziz, 32, a police constable while the injured policemen are: Abdul Malek, 35, a sub-inspector, Constable Anwar, 38, Nurul Hasan, 38, and Shariful, 32.

The injured accused are Abdus Shukur, 50, Najim Uddin, 40, Md Bashir, 34, Shawkat, 30, and Saddam Hossain, 25.

Condition of SI Malek and the first four accused is said to be critical, according to the Bangla daily.

Partha Sangkar Paul, a resident surgeon of the DMCH burn unit, told the daily that SI Malek has suffered 38 percent burn injuries while accused Shawkat 87 percent.
