Rajshahi court orders Tarique’s arrest

A Rajshahi court on Tuesday ordered police to arrest BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case filed for his disparaging remarks against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Judge of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 M Khaled Hasan passed the order upon a petition filed by complainant Mizanur Rahman Rana, president of Rajshahi University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Earlier, the court issued a warrant for the arrest of Tarique Rahman in the same case.

On 24 December last year, RU BCL president Rana filed the case against Tarique Rahman.

In his statement, the complainant alleged that while addressing a discussion meeting organised by BNP’s UK unit at the Atrium Hall in London, Tarique Rahman had termed Bangabandhu as ‘Pakbandhu’ and claimed that Bangabandhu returned home carrying a Pakistani passport.
