8 people died by train accident at Gazipur at Bakkihan

At least eight people were dead as a train rammed their three-wheeler at an unmanned level crossing in Bakkikhan area of Gazipur this afternoon.

The accident took place when a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (Demu) train from Dhaka hit an easy-bike around 2:30pm, out Gazipur correspondent reports quoting Sub-Inspector Md Alauddin, in-charge of Tongi railway police outpost.

The victims, all passengers of the easy bike, died on the spot after the three-wheeler carrying them was hit by the Demu train, the police official said.
Identity of the victims was no known immediately.

A rescue operation was underway, he said adding, there were no signal bar at the level crossing.
