 Two killed in Cox's bazar by landslide

A woman and her six-year-old daughter were killed and three remain missing in a landslide triggered by rain in Cox’s Bazar town early today.

Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), fire service and police were engaged in rescue operation, our local correspondent reports.

At least four houses were buried in the landslide that occurred near the local radar station around 2:00am. A portion of the station’s wall was also brought down by the landslide.

The deceased were identified as Jhunu Begum, 28, wife of Khairul Amin from the locality, and her daughter Neha. Rescued in a critical condition around 4:00am, they died on the way to a hospital.

Two rescued so far were Nurul Nabi, 28, and Safayet, 15. Three others missing were Shah Alam, 40, Rokeya Begum, 30, and Rina Akhter, 17, according to officials.

Cox’s Bazar’s acting Deputy Commissioner Anupam Saha, additional police Superintendent Tofayel Ahmed, and Civil Surgeon Kamal Uddin rushed to the spot after the incident and were there since last reported this morning.
