Five people including three women killed by landslide in Cox's Bazar

Five people including three women and a six-year-old child were killed in a landslide triggered by incessant rain in Cox’s Bazar town today.

Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), fire service and police carried out nearly 13 hours of rescue and digged out the bodies.

At least four houses were buried in the landslide that occurred near the local radar station around 2:00am. A portion of the station’s wall was also brought down by the landslide.

Later around 1:00pm, the dead bodies of Shah Alam, 50, son of Ejahar Mia and secretary general of local Awami Bastuhara Leauge, his wife Rokeya Begum, 36, and their niece Rita Akhter, 21, were found.

Cox’s Bazar acting Deputy Commissioner Anupam Saha, who was present at the spot since early today, endorsed the information.

The district’s additional police Superintendent Tofayel Ahmed, and Civil Surgeon Kamal Uddin rushed to the spot after the incident and were there since last reported in the afternoon.
