Country's largest exhibition centre to be built in Purbachal

With the Chinese assistance, the government is going to launch a project to build the country's largest exhibition centre.

The permanent establishment to be built at Purbachal, on the outskirts of the capital, would also be the house of Dhaka International Trade Fair.

The "Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre" would be built on 20 acres of land involving Taka 796 crore.

The project would be placed before the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), which is scheduled to sit tomorrow, for final approval, said an official of Planning Ministry.

The official said the Chinese Government would provide Taka 625 crore as grant while the government would give Taka 138 crore from the national exchequer and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) will contribute Taka 32 crore from own fund.

He informed the EPB would implement the project by June, 2018.

The official said the exhibition centre would be the permanent place of Dhaka International Trade Fair.

Currently, the international trade fair is being held in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area, adjacent to the Planning Commission, in makeshift structure.

According to the project details, the exhibition centre will have 806 permanent booths in two big halls. Each of the booth size will be 9 square metres.

The exhibition centre will have parking place for 1500 cars. The car parking place will be in underground.

Besides, the exhibition centre will have conference rooms, auditorium, media room, canteen, and other necessary amenities for the customers.
