‘Nightmare on Elm Street’

New Line Cinema is in the early stages of developing a new instalment of the horror film “Nightmare on Elm Street”.

The production house is hiring screenwriter David Leslie Johnson of “Orphan” fame to pen an update of the landmark horror franchise, reported Entertainment Weekly. The first “Nightmare on Elm Street” film, released in 1984, starred Robert Englund in the iconic slasher role as the child murderer burned boogeyman Freddy Krueger who finds a villainous afterlife by turning up in the bad dreams of his victims.

Director Samuel Bayer previously attempted to reboot Wes Craven’s brainchild with a 2010 remake that starred Rooney Mara and featured Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) as Freddy. Johnson also wrote the upcoming “The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist” and season two of the television series “The Walking Dead”.
