FFWC says improvement in flood situation

The floods situation across the country is expected to improve as most of the major rivers have stopped swelling or are falling during the last 24 hours.



The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre said here today that the Brahmaputra-Jamuna and the Ganges river systems are showing falling trend which is likely to continue for 72 hours while the Padma is expected to rise in next 24 hours. The Surma-Kushiyara river systems are in steady state which may start to fall in next 48 hours.

FFWC however recorded water levels at 42 points across the country have risen in the past 24 hours while water levels receded at 41 points, and at 17 points waters are flowing above danger levels.

The overall flood situation in the districts of north, north-central, central and north-eastern part of the country may gradually improve in next 48 hours, said the bulletin.

At Nakuagaon 64mm rainfall was recorded, 60mm was recorded at Lorergarh, 50.6mm at Norsingdi, and 43mm at Cox,s Bazar during the last 24 hours.
