Farabi sued under ICT act

Police have filed a lawsuit against Shafiur Rahman Farabi, a suspect in blogger-writer Avijit Roy murder, under the Information and Communication Technology Act.Inspector Fazlur Rahman of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police lodged the case on Saturday morning.

Officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station Mashiur Rahman told thereport24.com Farabi was sent to court with a 10-day remand petition.The suspect was earlier remanded for 10 days on March 3.Farabi was detained from a house in Jatrabari early on March 2.


On the night of February 26, Avijit Roy, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin, and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna were viciously attacked near the TSC area of Dhaka University while returning from the book fair.Avijit, also the founder of Mukto-mona blog, died hours later at Dhaka Medica College Hospital.


Police recovered two bloodstained machetes and a school bag from the scene.
Avijit’s father Dr Ajay Roy filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station the following day against unnamed attackers.
