124 heirs of FFs get Indian scholarships in Rangpur
The High Commission(HC) of India today distributed cheques of scholarships of the government of India to 124 heirs of Freedom Fighters (FFs) studying at different educational institutions at higher secondary and under-graduation level honours courses.
The cheques for scholarship were distributed at a ceremony arranged jointly by District Muktijoddha Command and Bangladesh-India Friendship Society (BIFS)) Bangladesh at Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) auditorium in the city.
Member of BIFS, valiant freedom fighter and Organiser of War of Liberation Habibul Haque Fulu Sarker attended the ceremony as the chief guest with District Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Mosaddek Hossain Bablu in the chair.
First Secretary (Political) of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka Ninad S. Deshpande, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr ATM Mahbubul Karim, Member of BIFS Shaheen Sultana, its General Secretary Subir Kushari and Joginder Singh of the Defense Wing of the Indian High Commission attended as special guests.
The chief guest distributed Indian scholarship cheques among the 124 students, who are heirs of the FFs, with Taka 10,000 among each higher secondary level student and Taka 24,000 among each honours level student of all eight districts in Rangpur division.
Heirs of the freedom fighters (FFs), their parent FFs, renowned personalities, academicians, professionals, socio-cultural and political leaders, civil society members, community leaders and journalists were present in the ceremony.
While addressing the ceremony, the speakers said that the people of Bangladesh would ever remember the assistance and contribution extended by India and her sacrifice during the War of Liberation in 1971 in liberating the nation.
They called upon the scholarship recipient students to properly utilise the money in continuing studies and suggested them to become knowledgeable persons through extracurricular activities along with traditional education.
In his speech, the chief guest gratefully remembered the all-out cooperation and support extended by the Indian government and people to the struggling people of Bangladesh during the War of Liberation in 1971 in liberating the country.
He called for disseminating the true national history on the War of Liberation and information on India's assistance among the students and young generations so that they could know the contribution and sacrifice of India in liberating Bangladesh.
