tribunal in Dhaka today sentenced Mahidur Rahman and Afsar Hossain to life until death on one charge of crimes against humanity committed in Chapainawabganj during the Liberation War in 1971.

The duo has also been awarded five years’ imprisonment in another charge by majority as the International Crimes Tribunal-2 found them guilty in two out of three charges against them.

Justice Obaidul Hassan, chairman of the three-member panel of ICT-2, set the date in a brief order at 11: 15a.m.

"Let the matter be fixed tomorrow for judgment and take necessary measures to produce the accused before tribunal," said Justice Hassan.

The second tribunal on April 22, had kept the date of the judgment on CAV (curia advisary vult, a Latin legal term meaning court awaits verdict) as the four month-long hearing in the case came to an end on that day.

Earlier on December 11, 2014, the second tribunal indicted the duo, framing three charges of crimes against humanity. A total of 10 prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer ZM Altafur Rahman, testified against them.

The prosecution on November 16, 2014, submitted formal charge against Mahidur and Chutu, bringing three charges, and the tribunal on November 24 took the charges into cognizance.
