PM says "poverty comes under 22.7 percent"
Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for the second consecutive year signed 'Annual Performance Agreement' (APA) today with all its six subordinate bodies aimed at inspiring the organizations to perform 'result oriented' yearly activities.
In presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and heads of six subordinate organizations and projects under the PMO signed the agreements at Prime Minister's Office to be applicable for fiscal year 2015-2016.
The bodies came under the agreements are- Board of Investment (BoI), Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA), Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA), NGO Affairs Bureau, Public Private Partnership Office (PPPO) and Ashrayan Project.
Addressing the signing ceremony Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina highlighted the results that has been accomplished by five organizations under the PMO saying the agreements has undoubtedly expedited the activities of the organizations yielding a very positive result.
She hoped that the APA signed with six bodies of the PMO will also bring dynamism in the activities of the organizations delivering service to the people more effectively and according to their need.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad delivered introductory speech while head of Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) Abdul Halim gave a presentation on success of the APA signed with five bodies under PMO last year.
PM's advisors HT Imam, Dr Gowher Rizvi, Dr Moshiur Rahman, Executive chairman of BoI Dr SA Samad, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim and senior officials of the Prime Minister's Office were present on the occasion.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh would be able to stamp out poverty within a very short time if everybody gives some efforts in discharging their duties with sincerity and honesty and work together.
"You must not think about only yourself. Everybody must think about the people. You will certainly get a congenial atmosphere if people of the country live in a good condition," she said.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Awami League has not come to power to do business, rather improve the living condition of the people to materialize her government's vision to make Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.
"Our government is working with commitment to establish good governance, strengthen democracy and decentralization of power," she said urging the government officials and employees of all level to work with dedication and go beyond the bureaucratic mindset to deliver better service to the people.
The present government, taking the experience of the Power Development Board and a number of public and private sector organizations, has formulated the idea last year to sign APA with its subordinate organizations to enhance their annual performance.
In line with this, the government has signed APA with 48 ministries and divisions for the last fiscal while PMO signed APA with its five subordinate organizations, creating a positive competitive attitude in the administration in performing duties.
The Prime Minister said the annual performance management is an effective tool for evaluating the capacity of the public enterprises to deliver service to the people. Effective application of the method can help the public offices to achieve their desired goal.
