Under control Fire  in garment factory at Shyamoli

A fire has torn through a readymade garment factory on the top floor of a multi-storey building in Dhaka’s Shyamoli.

Khan Plaza, which houses two residential hotels and many business establishments on different floors, is situated at the Shyamoli intersection.

The fire first broke out at Bilash Garments on the building’s seventh floor around 11:15pm on Tuesday, bdnews24.com’s Staff Correspondent Salahuddin Wahed reported from the scene.

Adabor Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Kabir could not say how the fire had started.

No casualties were reported so far.

Quoting witnesses and law-enforcers on the spot, Wahed said the fire was first spotted from a room of the factory on the seventh floor.

Fire Service control room duty officer Mohammad Ali told bdnews24.com that 14 of their units had worked to put out the fire after several hours.

RAB-2 Sub-Inspector ‘Mohsin’ said they were certain that the fire originated from the seventh floor, but believed the extent of damage would not be high.

He said no employees were in the factory during the incident as it was closed and locked around 10pm.

There are two hotels on the second and third floors of the building. The garment factory is housed from the fifth to the seventh floors.

Owner of the hotels, Md Munir also said that they first noticed the smoke coming out from the factory. The flames spread very quickly.
