    PM says 'Vision 2021' to set foundation of 'Vision 2041'

Proper implementation of the "Vision-2021" would lay the foundation of Vision-2041, paving the way for Bangladesh to proceed to the status of developed countries, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said here today.

Bangladesh would be a middle-income country by 2021 when access of the poor to basic rights would be ensured. And by 2041, Bangladesh would be turned into a peaceful, prosperous, happy and developed landscape, she said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made these remarks in the House in response to a question from treasury bench member Sharif Ahmed. The written reply of the Prime Minister was tabled in the house as the proceedings of the session began this morning with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in the chair.

Sheikh Hasina said the administrative system of the country, by 2041, would be completely decentralized when most of the public expenditure would be conducted by local bodies.

"Good governance, ability and empowerment of the people will be the main pillar of our development and progress," she said.

Women empowerment, education, special welfare measures for marginal people and religious harmony will be inherent component of the development, she added.

Sheikh Hasina said her government has set a goal to increase the per capita income to US$ 2,000 by 2021 and make sustainable the nation's capacity in producing sufficient food.

By 2021, she said, the tele-density would be 90 percent against 70 percent in 2015.
