Cyclone ‘Komen’ 65 km from Chittagong

About a hundred houses have been destroyed in the winds of the approaching cyclone in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar, reports our local correspondent.

A man, Md Islam, 50, died hit by a coconut tree at St Martain’s Island around 4:00am, according to Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shah Mujahid Uddin.


Around 11:30am, the cyclone was 65 kilometres off from the Chittagong coast, our local correspondent reports quoting Biswajit Chowdhury, an official of Patenga met office.

The cyclone is expected to move east-northeast and make landfall along the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar coast after noon accompanying winds from 80-100kmph, said Abul Kalam Mollick, an official of Bangladesh Meteorological department.

There are possibilities that the cyclone may let off steam with gusts of rain and become weaker upon landfall.
