Bangladesh Army will continue to train Nepalese army

The army chief of Nepal today praised the international standard training courses of the military institutes of Bangladesh saying his country is keen to continue the training programme for their army personnel in future.

Visiting Nepalese Chief of Army Staff General Gaurav Shumsher Jaung Bahadur Rana during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Tejgaon office here today said, so far 215 Nepalese army officials received military training from Bangladesh. "They want to continue the training programme in future," he said.

PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said Nepalese army chief informed the Prime Minister of her country's plan to have a joint expedition with Bangladesh to Mount Everest next year.

Sheikh Hasina recalled the role of Nepalese people particularly of the incumbent Prime Minister Sushil Koirala in Bangladesh's War of Liberation and extending support to the Freedom Fighters with supplying arms and ammunitions.

Shameem Chowdhuri said the matters relating to mutual interests and way of strengthening relations between the two countries came in the discussion between the Prime Minister and Nepal Army Chief.

Sheikh Hasina laid importance on good relation, joint exercise and regular meeting of the top army officials to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in pursuit of peace and security of the region.

General Rana praised the visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina saying Bangladesh's advancement under her leadership is wonderful. "Bangladesh would go far ahead under her dynamic guidance," he hoped.

In the meeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina underlined the importance of regional connectivity for development. She said transit facility with Nepal is very crucial for road connectivity between Bangladesh and Nepal. India is responding very positively to address the issue, she said.

Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Hari Kumar Shrestha and Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh Lt General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq and, PMO Secretary Suriya Begum, among others, were present.
