PM received FAO award formally

Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam today
formally handed over the FAO 'Achievement Award' to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which Bangladesh received for its success in reaching target 1(C) of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).



The Food Minister handed over the award to the Prime Minister at the
beginning of the cabinet meeting held at Bangladesh secretariat today, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said.

Advocate Quamrul Islam, on behalf of the Prime Minister, received the FAO award at a special event titled 'Recognizing Notable and Outstanding Progress

in Fighting Hunger' organized on the sideline of the 39th session of the FAO in Rome on June 7, 2015.

The Achievement Award mentioned that Bangladesh reached target of 1(C) of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) to reduce country's population sufferings from undernourishment by at least 50 percent or to bring it below 5 percent, between 1990 and 2015.

The Cabinet Secretary said that Bangladesh has already achieved the target of reducing the number of people suffering from undernourishment by at least 50 percent before 2015. The Award is another feather to the crown of success of Bangladesh, he said.
