PM says “Interrupt during exam shrinks pass rate”

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, said on Sunday the success rate in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations would have been much higher if there were no sabotage and suicidal activities by the BNP-Jamaat alliance during the exam time.


Sheikh Hasina, also the president of ruling Awami League, made the allegation after the HSC and equivalent examinations’ results were handed over to her at Ganabhaban.


“There were constant blockade and hartal during the examinations and students had to go to exam halls in panic,” said the prime minister.


She continued saying, “But our boys and girls appeared in the exams defying all the obstacles and came out successful and this is a big thing.”


She congratulated the students who passed the exams and their parents for doing well even though they had to sit for examination amid political unrest.


The prime minister said the pass rate has increased in the science group and female student have performed well in the exams, which is a positive sign.


She said financially insolvent students would receive stipend till their graduation in the country.


Education is the key to eliminate poverty, said the prime minister, adding that the government is trying to increase literacy rate in the country.
