PM  emphasis on Bangladesh and Slovenia in institutional agreements   

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today put emphasis on institutional arrangements between Bangladesh and Slovenia to explore untapped potentials for further boosting of trade and economic relations.

"The two countries should have institutional arrangements like regular exchange of trade and investment and chamber delegations to explore untapped potentials for further growth of trade and economic ties," she said.

The Prime Minister expressed this view when non-resident Slovenian Ambassador to Bangladesh Darja Bavdaz Kuret paid a farewell call on her at her office at the National Economic Council building at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar here this morning.

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.

Putting emphasis on strengthening the people-to-people contact between the two countries, the Prime Minister also said Bangladesh and Slovenia should start mutual cooperation in various fields for the benefits of the two peoples.

She urged the Slovenian government to import different world class products from Bangladesh for further boosting trade and commerce between the two countries.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is now producing different international standard goods like ceramics, readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, jute and jute goods, leather and leather goods.

"The Slovenian government and businessmen could import these world class goods from Bangladesh for further enhancing bilateral trade and commerce," she said.

Spelling our government's impressive success on various socioeconomic fronts, Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh attained food security thanks to various pragmatic steps of her administration.

Noting that her government giving importance to the private sector for further development of the country, Sheikh Hasina said the work is underway to establish special economic zones in the country.

"Our government has ensured an investment-friendly atmosphere in the country and we are inviting the foreign investors to invest in these economic zones," she said.

Stressing the need for regional connectivity, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan recently signed an agreement to boost connectivity in the region and strengthen economic activities.

At the outset of the meeting, the Prime Minister recalled with gratitude the support extended by Slovenia as being integral part of the then Yugoslavia during Bangladesh's War of Liberation in 1971.

At the meeting, the Slovenian envoy said she already had a meeting with the leaders of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and mentioned that the FBCCI will ink an MoU with their Slovenian counterpart for further boosting economic cooperation and the people-to-people contact.

The ambassador also placed emphasis on exchanging cultural delegations between the two countries and offered to send quality football coaches to Bangladesh for further improving the ties in the field of sports and games.

She said Slovenia and Bangladesh are maintaining good relations and they are working together at multilateral forums.

PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present at the meeting.
