Great daughter pays homage nation's father mausoleum
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his mausoleum here today marking the 40th National Mourning Day, martyrdom day of the great leader.
She arrived Tungipara, homeland of Bangabandhu, by helicopter after paying tributes to him at Dhanmondi House No 32 and placed wreath as part of the national programme marking the National Mourning Day.
After placing wreath, the Prime Minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of the architect of the independence,who was brutally killed by some disgruntled army men on the dreadful night of August 15, 1975 along with spouse and most of his family members.
A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the three services gave state salute while bugle played the last post. Chiefs of the three services were present at that time.
Accompanied by younger sister Sheikh Rehana, the Prime Minister then offered prayer at the mazar seeking eternal peace of departed souls of Bangabandhu,Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other martyrs of August 15, 1975 massacre.
Prayers were also offered seeking country's continued peace, progress and prosperity.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Minister for Public Administration Syed Ashraful Islam, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Public Works and Housing Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan,Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Moazzemel Haq, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, state ministers Mirza Azam and Tarana Halim, PM's Security Adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad ASM Feroze attended the function.

Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, PM's Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, PMO Secretary Suriya Begum and Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim Helal were present.
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also placed a wreath at the mazar of Bangabandhu.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League along with the central Awami League leaders placed wreath at the mazar of Bangabandhu on behalf of the party.
Later, leaders of different associate bodies of Awami League placed wreaths at the mazar.
The Prime Minister, cabinet members, party leaders and workers joined a milad and doa mahfil on the mazar premises marking the National Mourning Day,organized by the cabinet division and Gopalganj district administration.
