3 dies as train hits truck parked near tracks in Gazipur

A Dhaka-bound train has hit a truck in Gazipur killing three passengers of the train on Thursday.The truck, parked near rail tracks at Sreepur Upazila, was hit by the train coming from Jamalpur around 11am, said local police’s sub-inspector (SI) Salah Uddin.

The dead have been identified as college-student Shikhor Ahmed, 19, Mostofa Kamal, 55 and Jahangir Alam, 40.

Ahmed and Kamal, who died on the spot, hail from Mymensingh’s Gafagaron Upazila while Alam is from Sreepur.

According to SI Salahuddin, the Dhaka-bound train crashed in to the truck while passing the Upazila’s Maizparha area, leaving two, who were standing at the entrance of a coach, killed.

The third died while being taken to hospital.

Six others injured were taken to the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.

Of them, three have been sent to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation at Dhaka’s Shyamoli area.
