Criminals attack police in Khagrhachharhi injuring 8

Eight policemen have been injured in an attack by a group of gamblers during a raid in Khagrhachharhi.They attackers also vandalized the vehicle of the Sadar Police Station’s officer-in-charge on Friday night.

The injured are – Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarowar Alam, OC Mijanur Rahman, Assistant sub-inspectors Tarun Chakma, Mohammad Belal Hossain, constables Abul Kalam, Najir Hossain, Rana Pratap and Mohammad Arif.

ASP Alam received injuries to his head while the rest were hit by barrage of brickbats, hurled by the gamblers, on legs and other parts of their bodies.

Alam said they raided Komolchharhit Government Primary School grounds on Friday night after getting information that gamblers had gathered on the school premises on the occasion of its centenary celebration.

When police reached there, gamblers started throwing stones at them and damaged the OC’s vehicle, he said.

However, no-one has been arrested over the attacks but a case was filed on Friday morning without naming anyone, OC Rahman said.
